TRAINING : A typical day of training usually involves pairing an hour and a half of BJJ with an hour and a half of either Muay Thai, MMA, or conditioning.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training for fighting once I became proficient in BJJ. I was training with Team Bison, which is very MMA oriented. Initially, I went there for the grappling, but quickly became involved in the fight game. I have since moved to Madison, where I continue to train MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai, etc. with Twisted Fitness.

What ranks and titles have you held? I have a BJJ Purple belt. I have also held the UCS 185-pound title.

Do you have any heroes? Socrates

What is your favorite technique? The Banana Split.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? The UFC represents the pinnacle of achievement in the fight game; it's such an honor to be a part of it.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? In undergrad I studied math with minors in physics and studio art. I am currently pursuing a masters in structural engineering at UW-Madison.

What was your job before you started fighting? I ran a painting business for five years. I'm also a researcher for the structural engineering department at the University of Wisconsin.
