TRAINING: My training day is pretty much the same as always. My typical daily schedule is 12:00-2:00 pm team fight training, where we fight and grind like old school hard training. I have an incredible team that gets me ready and pushes me hard. Then home for lunch and rest and back at 7:30 pm for cardio / air dyne workouts, mitts, or a 5+ mile run. My day ends around 9:30 at night with dinner and sleep. It's the fighter lifestyle. 6 days a week fighting.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I got into fighting when I met Bob Cook and Dewayne Zinkin in Vegas after the wrestling US Open. I had a friend who was fighting at the time and I was talking shit to him, that I'd fight and he knew Bob Cook, and said something to Bob about me. Well I was only talking s**t! I didn't think that Bob Cook would call me out on it!! Well, I didn't think anything of it, went back home. 2 Weeks later I got a phone call from Bob to join Team AKA and start fighting!!! I was like damn, I guess I'll fight So I flew out to AKA and got my ass kicked for a week straight by Bob Cook, Dave Camarillo, Mike Swick , Josh Thomson and all the other AKA fighters. I was like damn, I don't think I want to fight after that ass whipping, But I am a fast learner so I went back a month later and did really well. So that's brings me to where I am today.
What ranks and titles have you held? 2001 NCAA div. 1 national champion, 42-0
4 X NCAA div. 1 all American, The Ultimate Fighter season 12 coach.
Do you have any heroes? No! I am my own hero!
What is your favorite technique? My favorite is the arm bar, even though I've never hit it in a fight!
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means a lot for me to fight in the UFC because I gave up a great job and a lifelong career to get a chance to fight in the UFC.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Koscheck attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on a wrestling scholarship. He had a decorated career at Edinboro University. In 2001, he went 42-0 and was the NCAA Division I National Champion in the 174-pound weight class. Koscheck was a four-time Division I All-American (4th, 2nd, 1st, and 3rd) and a four-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champion to become only the 11th four-time PSAC champion. He was honored as the PSAC Wrestler of the Year three times and was twice named the Eastern Wrestling League Achievement Award winner. Koscheck earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Edinboro in 2001. Koscheck is currently working on his master's degree in secondary counseling.
• One of the most active UFC fighters today, with 22 Octagon fights.
• Was winning Fickett fight handily until caught late and submitted with 22 seconds left.
• Fast learner – was a novice pro when he went on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, yet has learned on the job and he has become one of the top 170-pounders in the UFC.
• Has deadly overhand right.
• Won Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night after win over Johnson
• Won Fight of the Night in rematch loss to St-Pierre
• Won KO of the Night for wins over Hughes and Yoshida
